Dining Room Design Tips
As the season shifts into winter, gatherings tend to move inside with the dining room becoming the heart of the home. This time of year, the most beautiful spaces aren't the ones that feel decorated, they are the spaces that feel thoughtful, layered and lived in. With this in mind, I’m sharing the top 4 ways to elevate your dining room for the holidays.
Upholstery: Comfort is the quiet keystone of a great dining room, especially when friends and family linger after dinner ends. Upholstered dining chairs, seat cushions, or even a throw casually draped nearby add warmth and softness to a dining space, transforming a beautiful room into an inviting one.
Natural Elements: Bring in nature (winter edition!) The easiest way to make a dining room feel seasonally elevated without leaning overly holiday is to incorporate winter's own palette and materials. Bright floral branches, cedar, eucalyptus, pinecones, winter citrus, or a simple bowl of pomegranates are all great options. These natural textures instantly ground a space and bring a sense of quiet luxury.
Intentional Styling: When it comes to styling the dining room table, I love to use natural materials and a curated selection of objects. Linen runners, stone platters, candleholders, raw wood serving bowls – all of these elements really tighten a classic table piece.
Declutter: Edit and clear things out! This time of year the dining room can quickly become a landing zone for gifts, decor, mail. For styling a dinner or gathering, take a moment to remove anything that doesn't serve functionally or aesthetically. When you create breathing room, it really feels sophisticated and instantly calmer. This time of year, restraint is the most luxurious choice.
I hope these tips inspire you to create a space to relax, entertain, and enjoy the holidays with your loved ones.
