#FRtravels: Round Top Antique-ing

One of the fun parts of what we do is curating items from around the world for our client projects and #FRcollection shop. The Fletcher Rhodes team recently hit the road to Round Top Texas for a shopping trip during their famous Antique Week. I brought my awesome sis with me and met up with some of my oldest and dearest college friends (whom I hadn’t seen in eons!) Here we’re sharing our top picks and tips…

STAY

Round Top shopping is serious! You’re out all day curating finds, and out at night chatting with everyone about your finds. So it was important for us to choose a spot that helped us reenergize for the following full day. The Vintage Round Top was a perfect recoup spot for us! A pretty stay in one of their soulful, sustainable cottages even gave us extra time to shop their own curated vintage finds.

DO

There is no shortage of large-scale shopping spots to check out while in Round Top. Here’s a list of just a few we enjoyed:

  • Excess “The Fields” - plan a whole day for this HUGE marketplace for antique dealers, designers, salvagers and fabricators

  • The Compound - definitely check to see what events are happening there when you’re in town

  • Paul Michael’s Market Hill - 130,000-SF space with seven buildings under one roof, including a restaurant

  • Arbors - best known for their signature white tents, over the last 20 years they have become one of the most renowned shows during Antique Week.

  • Cisco Home - one-of-a-kind, eco-friendly pieces we love to use in our projects

  • Marburger Antique Show - a 5-day show that brings together dealers onto 43 pastoral acres each spring and fall

EAT

Hailing from Sonoma we can be big foodies. Round Top definitely satisfied our palate!

  • Bader Ranch - great dinner here, and one of our favorite nights when the entire Y Comida restaurant was opened in a barn!

  • LuLu's - not gonna lie we ate here 3 times. (Tip: Make your reservation for the dining room)

  • Royer's - one word: PIE!!!

  • Eliss Motel - great cocktails on the patio, outdoor BBQ and street tacos

  • Duo Modern - do check out Paul Michael ‘s Market Hill for shopping AND food

TIPS

A few of our local knowledge-level tips to keep in mind when visiting:

  • Come prepared for hot and cold weather

  • Wear comfortable boots and tennies (you will get dirty, but it's all about the fashion they say!)

  • Have a file you carry with multiple copies of your  Resale License to give to vendors

  • Most vendor's are set up with Venmo now, but bring cash and your checks.

  • You shop all day, be prepared for some serious picking especially at the fields

  • The evenings are social and everyone gathers at the restaurants and bars and talks about their finds.
