Wine Country Fall & Winter Table Styling

Entertaining for the holidays? We’ve got you covered.

As designers, we naturally get asked a lot about styling. I typically defer to my good friend Chelsea, owner of Olive + Rose here in Sonoma, for her styling expertise and shop picks. We thought it would be fun to get together and pull two looks that will work all season long, from Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Year’s and beyond.

 FALL TABLE STYLING

We are the hosts with the mosts this year and starting to drum up some new ideas for a gorgeous tabletop for our families. My extended family here is BIG so we don’t have space to all sit at one table. We often go more casual, set up a buffet and gather where we can. Although a casual set up, it still feels very sophisticated and festive.

No table cloth? No problem. We actually styled the table with a vintage antique wedding blanket vs. doing a traditional tablecloth. In lieu of draping the entire table, we gathered it along the edge in prep for a buffet style gathering.

Next up we layered in some fall dried florals from the local flower market. These last a long time and look amazing. You can pull leaves from the bunch and style on the napkins.

Cloth napkins are an easy way to add in some autumn hues. These super thick stonewashed linen napkins in ochre add that fall flare and subtle pop of color we love.

Plates are stacked casually for guests to make their way to the buffet in the kitchen. We are big fans of the texture these salt glaze plates add to the ensemble.

We gathered some cute little pumpkins, magnolia branches, dried goods and branches in a vintage copper crock to finish the look.

WINTER TABLE STYLING

Once Thanksgiving is checked off your hosting list, you’ll want a table you can use all season long for any excuse of an occasion to bat away the winter blues. No matter what you celebrate there is something sentimental about starting new traditions and creating a gathering that feels special. And the ritual can be simple not stressful — we pulled this together in under 20 minutes with a timeless black and white palette. Sophisticated and easy!

We opted for actual place settings here for a more intimate feel. Black stonewashed linen napkins add a dash of crisp drama, paired with salt glazed plates in winter white.

We placed a large white vase as the center piece and filled it with dried magnolia branches, and used a branch on each of the table settings.

Pebbled glassware in various shapes and sizes add interest and a collected, artisan feel.

What I especially love about this type of styling is you can do it all year round!
