Sonoma Mediterranean Mod Guest Cottage
Back in September we installed our client Sonoma Mediterranean Mod’s main house and showed you a sneak peek here. The project was such an incredible transformation, and just as we were wrapping up the main house, we rolled into the cute little cottage that was also on the property. We took many of the same design elements from the house and implemented it into this adorable guest abode while still giving it its own flare. We really wanted to make it feel like a European retreat.
THE KITCHEN
The guest cottage has a full kitchen and full bathroom which makes a wonderful space for the client’s in-laws to relax and settle in while visiting. But both spaces really called for a total remodel, so we started there. The kitchen is a tight space, so in order to maximize function and make sure the kitchen didn’t feel too claustrophobic, we removed all the upper cabinets and added an open wall shelf to house cups, plates, and pitchers. Due to the minimal lighting we added a table lamp on the counter and a plug-in light. The plaster walls make for a challenging environment for our electrician!
The creamy colored cabinets, the paneled range hood, and the white Smeg refrigerator were some of our favorite elements! We carried the same floor that was used in the main house into here, along with using some of the same tile materials in the guest bathroom, which tie both the spaces together.
The kitchen counters are a Quartz slab — super durable and cost efficient. Cabinets are a painted shaker style, walls are a painted plaster.
We were able to keep the plumbing in the existing conditions, installing a prefab vanity and using the same counter as the kitchen for the vanity top. Just updating the materials made the space so much lighter and brighter than before!

THE LIVING ROOM
We furnished the rest of the project with a mix of the client’s existing pieces and some items we had in our inventory. We used a mix of woods, metals, and a lot of lush linen!

Special treat was installing during Harvest, so we got to see the surrounding vineyard being picked while we were hard at work as well. Cheers!
