Behind the “Scene”: Tiburon Mural Project
If you haven’t seen the hills of Tiburon here in the Bay Area for yourself, you must! From these hills are the best sweeping views of San Francisco, Marin, the Golden Gate Bridge, and even the East Bay (Berkeley and Oakland). Exhibit A:
While our typical project is located further north in Wine Country and the views are already incredibly picturesque, our Traditional in Tiburon project with stunning 180 degree views was an opportunity to incorporate something really special. Immediately when we got the project we knew we wanted to do a large mural in the entryway that captured the essence of the views surrounding this Mediterranean-style family home. And we knew just the man for the job.
Charles Leonard is not just any muralist; he’s a particularly talented and thoughtful artist here in the Bay Area and we were thrilled to have the chance to work with him. We gave him a few initial design desires, such as we knew we wanted a tonal mural with a subdued color palette. Each time he travelled over to the project site from the East Bay, he took in the views of trees and hills, and then translated them into a full-scale mural design.
The project took him many weeks to complete, from his first sketches, to the underlay prep work, then onto all the details. We love that he snuck in a few surprise elements you have to search for (like a horse and a boat), which he thought would be fun for the kids to discover as the years went on.
How do you think it came out? Talk about putting the “picture” in picturesque!
