Kamen Estate Wines Tasting Room

Wax on, wax off… We recently got to do a fun little commercial project for Kamen Estate Wines. Founded in 1980 by proprietor Robert Mark Kamen, screenplay writer for The Karate Kid and The Fifth Element, Kamen Estate Wines is nestled in the hills above Sonoma. They have a more accessible tasting room in the heart of the Sonoma Plaza, and wanted to create seating to accommodate larger groups. See the before and after…

For this project, our goal was to utilize the small area footprint as much as possible, while enticing passersby with a peek into the bustling happenings within. By replacing non-usable display space with a built-in bench seat tucked into the bay window, we were able to create a charming tasting nook pulled far enough away from the tasting bar.

PLANNING

Install Day peeks show a few more details within the space:

  • Creating a fabric-wrapped wall-hung back panel cushion allowed us to minimize bench depth as much as possible. Fabrics from Caroline Cecile and Kufri.

  • We’re all about supporting small businesses: local wood worker Randall Wilson built the wraparound bench.

  • And we’re all about refurbishing and reclaiming where we can: a reclaimed manzanita branch from Artefact Design Salvage is used as a wall hanging.

Check out Kamen Estate Wines and we hope the next time you visit us here in Sonoma, you check out the tasting room!
