Our Top White Paint Picks

What is one of the most frequent questions we get asked?  You guessed it: “What is your favorite white paint?”

It’s no secret we love white; our portfolio is a clear representation of that. White is the best neutral backdrop for any space, whether it’s a bedroom, kitchen, entry or living room. It brightens up any space, and creates the most luxurious, timeless backdrop for furniture, antiques and a calm place to rest your eye.

We certainly have a few favorite whites that work in any space or environment. But whites don’t always read the same in all spaces, so we do recommend brush outs in your actual space whenever possible to see how it looks with natural lighting and shadows, time of day and time of year.

These whites are our tried and true go to’s and work almost anywhere:

Our soft white go-to’s:

White Dove OC-17
& Dove Wing OC-18

For trims and ceilings, we love using Benjamin Moore’s White Dove OC-17. For walls, we like to pair it with Benjamin Moore’s Dove Wing OC-18. In fact, we’re such big fans of this soft white combo that we use it in most of our projects as a solid base to build upon, as well as in our Sonoma studio and owner Emily’s home!

Here in our Marin Hillside Cottage project, we painted the entry door in Black Wrought Iron 2124-10 for contrast.

For a nice punch:
Simply White OC-117

Also from Benjamin Moore, Simply White OC-117 can brighten up any space when you might want to accentuate the architecture or provide a crisp backdrop for your art and furnishings, as seen here throughout our Napa Neue project. Notice how the tones can change depending on the light coming in.

For an accent that pops:
Bruton White CW-117

Benjamin Moore’s Bruton White CW-117 is more of a super soft gray that we like to use against a brighter white, like how the guest vanity in our Sonoma Family Home project provides just enough contrast, or below, how the dimmed entryway in our Napa Neue project welcomes you in.

For kitchen cabinets:
Swiss Coffee OC-45

A staple amongst designers, Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee OC-45 strikes that hard-to-attain balance between ivory and beige — not too yellow, not too pink, not too gray. Used often on walls, we prefer to warm up kitchen cabinets like we did here in our Sonoma Family Home project.

Let us know if you’ve used one of these in your own projects, or plan to in a future space!
